Richard W. Vorder Bruegge, Ph.D. is the Director of ForensicVB LLC.

He is a biometrics and forensic image analytics expert with 30+ years of experience in forensic application of biometrics, image and video analytics and digital identity, as well as guiding research activities and policy development. He is an internationally recognized subject matter expert in facial recognition and multimedia authentication.

Dr. Vorder Bruegge was the FBI’s Chief Image Advisor from 2009 to 2024. He led the FBI and the United States Department of Justice in developing their facial recognition policies and was the lead developer of the FBI’s Facial Comparison and Identification Training (FCIT) course. He also spearheaded FBI efforts to integrate video analytics into their operational worksflows.

During his career he chaired the Facial Identification Scientific Working Group (FISWG), the Scientific Working Group on Imaging Technology (SWGIT), the ASTM Committee E30 on Forensic Sciences, and the Organization of Scientific Area Committees for Forensic Science (OSAC) Digital/Multimedia Scientific Area Committee.
